Swimming

The swim and dive programs will begin in full force next Tuesday, June 22nd.  If you have not registered yet, there is still time!  Please read the following important announcements:

  • New Swim Lesson Director – Beth Wynstra has been hired to plan, oversee and augment our swim lesson programs.  She recently relocated to Boston from California, where she earned her PhD and was involved in teaching and coaching swimming.  She has over 25 years of swimming experience, including college swimming, nationally ranked synchronized swimming and water polo, and has been a high school coach and swim lesson instructor. Her experience will be invaluable to our club as we grow and develop our swim lesson program offerings.  Please introduce yourself to Beth when you see her at the Club.
  • Swim Team - Our season kicks off on Tuesday morning with the regular schedule.  9:30-10:30 for kids aged 11 and up; 10:30-11:30 for kids aged 7-10; and 11:30-12 for those 6 and under.  If you are interested in trying swim team before signing up, please see Coach Foley at the pool.  We will have a team ice cream party at the pool on Friday, June 25 (4-5 pm) to get psyched for our first meet on Saturday, June 26 at Chelmsford.  Please see bulletin board at the pool to sign up for meet and ice cream party.
  • Dive Team – Diving will begin next Tuesday, June 22 and will run from 1-3 pm. If you are interested in trying diving, please see Coach Pond.
  • Swim Lessons – Our swim lessons will now be run on a weekly basis.  Beth will outline a goal for the week, and all levels of swimmers will be working toward that goal.  The first week of lessons will work on water safety and freestyle fundamentals.  During the second week of lessons, she will begin “Fun Wednesdays” at the pool, so look out for that!  You may register for additional weeks of swim lessons by letting Beth know by the Friday before the week you would like to take lessons (earlier is better of course!).  There will be notebook at the pool to sign up for additional lessons if Beth is not there.
  • Masters Swimming – We have had broad interest in starting a Masters swim program for adults of all swimming abilities.  We are aiming toward starting this the week of June 28. Please check the website and pool bulletin board for more details.

1st Annual Diving Exhibition! Mark your calendars for the First Annual Diving Exhibition at WSTC.  It will occur on Friday, June 25th from 3-4 p.m. in the diving well at the pool.  Coach Sarah Pond and Wayland High School Diving Coach Sarah Dromgoole have arranged an exhibition of collegiate and high school divers to demonstrate the sport of diving for our kids.  The coaches will be on hand to answer questions and to give diving pointers to all interested parties.  We encourage all members to attend this fun, new event.
