Tennis Rules

The tennis committee urges all members to follow the rules with respect to the tennis courts and also comply with the principles of tennis etiquette.

1. Shirts and proper clothing must be worn at all times.

2. Use of the courts shall be restricted to members and their guests. All guests must be signed in at the registration desk in the Club House.

3. The courts are for tennis. No other games will be permitted within the enclosure, with the exception of basketball on court No. 8. An exception is made on court 5, where basketball will be available –until dusk.

4. Tennis lessons will be given on courts 7 and 8 only.

5. The following applies to courts numbered 7 and 8 only:

a. Court No. 7 shall be designated as the Pro’s Court for lessons. The Pro will have first preference every day until 7:00 pm.

b. Court No. 8 shall be set-aside for children every weekday afternoon from 1:00 to 5:00 pm. After 5:00 pm adults have preference.

c. On weekends, courts numbered 7 and 8 will be unreserved until 6:00 pm with play limited to 1 hour and backboard practice limited to 1/2 hour, if others are waiting to play or practice.

6. No tennis shall be played on the Club premises on weekdays BEFORE 8:00 am on courts 3 and 4 and 9:00 am on all other courts, on Saturdays BEFORE 8:00 am on courts 3 and 4 and 10:00 am on all other courts, on Sundays BEFORE 9:00 am on courts 3 and 4 and 10:00 am on all other courts and AFTER 9:00 pm every day.

7. Members and guests waiting to play must wait outside court enclosure.

8. Smooth-soled tennis shoes must be worn on the clay courts. Jogging shoes, hard-soled shoes, or bare feet are not permitted on any of the courts or the basketball area.

9. Club Pro will determine the playability of clay courts. Playing on soft, wet clay courts causes damage. Players should brush clay courts lengthwise and sweep tapes after playing.

10. Scheduling the use of courts shall be regulated by the Tennis Committee. Special events scheduled by the Committee shall supersede the reservation (sign-up) sheets.

11. Reservation (sign-up) sheets for the courts will be posted on Friday for Monday through Wednesday, and on Wednesday for Thursday through Sunday. Members may reserve courts in advance for the days posted at the main bulletin board by court 3. Sign-ups should stay within the allotted time periods.

12. Court time on weekends, holidays and after 4:00 pm on weekdays may not be reserved by a member more than 4 times per week.

13. A member who has reserved a court must cancel his reservation if he finds his group cannot play or he may give his court to another group. A court becomes free if not used by the reserving member within 15 minutes.

14. Blocks of courts cannot be reserved by an individual member without the prior consent of the Club Manager.

15. It is the intent of the Committee not to have an individual member or group of members reserve 2 consecutive time slots on the same court during prime tennis time.

16. Adults, 15 years old and older, have preference for the use of courts numbered 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 on weekends, holidays and after 4:00 pm on weekdays.

17. Members who fail to comply with the above rules will be referred to the Board of Governors for disciplinary action.
